Our client, Moortown Fire Station, attends call outs to residences and businesses within the local constituency. With over 22,000 residents to serve, the services workers at the depot are kept extremely busy in this popular North-Leeds suburb.
Following a successful competitive tender process, Jupiter Construction was appointed by West Yorkshire Fire Service to undertake the refurbishment works at Moortown Fire Station, consisting of a part refurbishment to the building and a remodelling of the sleeping dormitory.
Due to the building’s age, the electrical installation did not comply with current regulations. This meant new distribution boards and a full electrical upgrade were required to achieve compliancy. In addition, our team segregated the existing one-room dormitory into five individual bedrooms, as well as refurbishing the toilet facilities and locker room on the first floor and upgrading the lighting system to LED. On the ground floor, the Station Officer’s sleeping quarters and ensuite were completely refurbished.
Since the fire station remained in operation throughout the construction works, the project called for careful planning, with power outages and programming set in advance to allow for fire crew deployment from other nearby stations. Our site manager communicated with the watch manager on a daily basis to ensure that our planned activities did not impact West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue’s operations.
All works were completed on time and on budget, with a further work order since issued to Jupiter for additional construction works at Moortown Fire Station later in 2020.
