Longroyde Primary School formed in 2016 as the result of two former education providers, Castlefields Infant School and Longroyde Junior School, merging into one. Situated in the town of Brighouse, in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, the school serves children from as young as 2 years old through to 11 years.
In January 2020, the school appointed Jupiter to survey some of their existing classroom ceilings where plaster was becoming loose and posing a potential health and safety risk. Once the team had attended site and provided its assessment – which confirmed what the school had suspected an issue – Jupiter was appointed as the Principal Contractor for the refurbishment of two classrooms.
The works included installing a mesh to the existing lath and plaster ceiling, as well as installing a new suspended ceiling, lighting, decorations and floor finishes in both classrooms. This was achieved in just a few weeks, in a live school environment, without any issues. Later that year, when the school began experiencing the same ceiling issues in additional classrooms, Jupiter was called upon again to complete the refurbishment work. This second phase also involved asbestos removal which was completed in a safe and secure manner, with no impact to the school.
Both phases of the project were a success, finished within the estimated 6 weeks’ timeframe and within the client’s budget.
