Lound Junior School is a long-standing education provider based in Chapeltown, Sheffield. Dating back to 1901, it has been providing primary-years education to children growing up in the suburb for over one hundred years and to this day, remains one of just a few schools within the area for this age-group.
In 2017, the Trust secured funding from Sheffield Council to have the roof replaced following years of disruption due to water leaks. With its key role within the Chapeltown community, it was imperative the school remained open throughout the proposed works which meant that the project would take some time to complete while it continued to accommodate a busy working environment.
Appointed as Principal Contractor in 2017, the multi-faceted team at Jupiter began the work on phase 1. This involved stripping and re-roofing approximately half of the school building as well as installing a new domestic pipework scheme internally.
Then, in 2019, when the school was ready to proceed with phase 2, Jupiter was again awarded the contract and returned to site to re-roof the remainder of the school.
Both phases were carried out in sections to ensure that the school building remained water tight throughout the duration of the works. The projects endured several days of inclement weather however, despite this setting the team back on time, they still completed the works ready for the staff and pupils to re-occupy the building at the start of their September term.
