Project Overview

Jupiter Construction successfully won a competitive tender for a second job in the Elland locale, it being the provision of a 485 sqm Staff welfare and office facilities for the Calderdale Council Highways and Forestry Department, ring beam foundations on piles, steel framed construction with external aluminium cladding. PV installation, major groundworks, car park and associated infrastructure.

The contract fell under the JCT Design and build 2016 Calderdale Council Terms and Conditions.

Client Overview:

Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council is the local authority for the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale in West Yorkshire, England.

Scope of Works and Challenges Encountered:

  • Piling mapping out
  • Piling
  • Forming the ground beams and concrete base
  • Steel work erection
  • Beam and block floors – followed by precast stairs.
  • Installation of lift
  • First floor slab in on proprietary decking system
  • Cladding roof installed
  • External cladding to walls
  • Installation of windows and doors
  • Internal finishes including all M&E, joinery etc
  • Attenuation tank

Key Challenge:

Relates to the drainage plan and following Jupiter Construction reviewing the design and flagging raising concerns, a collaborative approach to managing the issue was employed in a value engineered way to manage the solution and minimise the cost impact to the client.

Another key challenge with this project was traffic management due to vehicles visiting the live public waste management site which was situated next door, with the exit from the waste site overlapped the entrance to the site that the project was taking place on meaning that traffic management, deliveries all had to be managed in a controlled way as did pedestrian access and egress and the use of robustly managed segregation and safe walkways.

The Team:

The team involved in this project were very experienced from Contracts Management to Quantity Surveyor, Site Management and Health and Safety support, this extended to a robustly managed team of sub-contractors, Jupiter Construction prides itself on a reliable and suitably competent supply chain with a solid Pre-Construction phase built into all projects.

Successes

Jupiter Construction achieved success for the client, delivering a timely project completion whilst adhering to budgetary constraints, a value engineering exercise took place to mitigate costs for the client. A cornerstone of Jupiter Constructions methodology is the strict adherence and commitment to rigorous quality assurance inspections conducted by the Site Manager and Contracts Manager.

In summary, our successes in this project led to a further build phase on the same site helped by Jupiter Constructions comprehensive commitment to quality, timely delivery, budgetary adherence and value engineering. These principles and achievements underscore Jupiter Construction's dedication to excellence, client satisfaction, and the efficient execution of construction projects.
