Our client, Sheffield South East Trust, holds responsibility for five primary schools in the city’s south-east region. One of the five, Phillimore Community Primary School, regularly caters for around 480 children aged between 3 and 11 years, plus staff.
Following a fire safety inspection by the local authority it became apparent that the school’s existing glazed screens were not fire rated. In addition, the was experiencing issues with rising damp due to the building’s age and the lack of damp-proof membrane to its floors. The Trust appointed Jupiter as Principal Contractor
to undertake the full construction works associated to the fire safety and damp proofing.
First, to ensure the fire doors were compliant, each of the school’s internal fire screens were replaced. Next, the damp proofing works were completed, which involved the team’s removing the old parquet flooring, before installing an Ardex DPM and fast-setting screed in its place. Floor finishes were then installed and the areas reinstated for use.
The project, which completed within the estimated 6 weeks’ timeframe and under £185,000 budget, was achieved to a very high standard.
