After a competitive tender process Jupiter Construction was appointed as the principal contractor to deliver the complete demolition of the existing Killamarsh Police Station and construct a brand-new, energy efficient purpose-built facility to support modern policing needs.

Client Overview

After a competitive tender process Jupiter Construction was appointed as the principal contractor to deliver the complete demolition of the existing Killamarsh Police Station and construct a brand-new, energy efficient purpose-built facility to support modern policing needs.

This project required a comprehensive approach, from site preparation and demolition of the previous police station building to full ground-up traditional construction, all while adhering to strict security protocols due to the nature of the building’s end use.

Scope of Works

The project was delivered over a 50-week programme and included:

  • Demolition & Site Clearance:
  • Full demolition of the existing police station.
  • Asbestos removal and internal strip-out.
  • Grubbing up foundations and preparing the site for redevelopment.
  • Substructure & Groundworks:
  • Reduced level excavations.
  • New foundations, drainage, gas membranes, and oversite preparations.

Superstructure:

  • Construction of a new masonry structure to wall plate level.
  • Installation of precast concrete planks, steel beams, and PCC staircases.
  • Roof trusses, decking, insulation, and aluminium cappings.
  • Installation of high-performance windows and doors.

Internal Fit-Out:

  • Full mechanical and electrical installation.
  • Internal partitions, plastering, suspended ceilings, and fire protection works.
  • Fitted IPS units, sanitaryware, and internal glazed screens.
  • Floor finishes, PVC wall cladding, and balustrading.

External Works:

  • Car park formation, drainage systems, and utility ducts.
  • DDA-compliant access ramps and pathways.
  • Perimeter fencing, landscaping, and external lighting.
  • Installation of PV solar panels and ASHP for improved energy efficiency.

Given the sensitive nature of the building, security compliance was paramount. All subcontractors and operatives required enhanced DBS checks alongside additional police security vetting before being permitted on-site. This demanded significant coordination between Jupiter Construction, the client, and our trusted supply chain to ensure all clearances were obtained without delaying progress.

Complex Logistics & Phasing

The project involved a complete demolition of the previous building, site preparation/drainage and rebuild within a fixed 50 - week programme. With multiple trades working simultaneously across all phases including the demolition, superstructure, M&E, and finishing phases, maintaining programme discipline was essential.

Collaborative Supply Chain Management

Close collaboration with our subcontractors was critical. Specialist partners were involved in various elements, including asbestos removal, M&E installations, lift installation, solar panel integration, and security infrastructure. Jupiter’s rigorous project management processes ensured smooth coordination and minimised delays.

Despite the challenging programme and strict security requirements, the project was delivered on time and to the highest standards. The new facility provides a modern, energy-efficient, and secure environment tailored to the operational needs of Derbyshire Constabulary.
