In Feb 2023 Jupiter Construction tendered for and were successful in being commissioned to undertake an exciting newbuild for the charity, Caring for Life who were working in partnership with Townscape Architects LTD
The Contract was a JCT Intermediate with Contractors Design Portion, the new build was to be known as “The Refectory” which replaces a building that would require demolition which was carried out by Jupiter Construction in advance of any works beginning.
The purpose of the building is to supply canteen facilities for the staff that work in and support Crag House Farm - Cookridge
The extensive scope of works encompassed a variety of crucial components, ensuring both structural integrity and aesthetic appeal whilst preserving the landscape and specifically ensuring that the local Tree Protection order was adhered to view meaning that significant amount of planning and organisation was required, elements of the works required lifting and so Jupiter Construction had to also work within airport restrictions when accounting for and planning Crane lifting works and movements,
Jupiter Construction collaborated closely with the client and the architect with a dedicated Contracts Manager and a Senior Site Manager, due to the charitable status of Living Care and the passion to deliver an excellent outcome for the client, achieving budget and delivering on time, a Value Engineering exercise was undertaken to better manage costs.
Given the location's prominence, location and the nature of the works, the security of the property was of paramount importance. Jupiter Construction implemented stringent security measures, ensuring the property remained secure and inaccessible to unauthorised persons outside of regular working hours. During working hours safety and segregation was important meaning that there was no disruption to the Farm, Garden Centre, or any “live” areas where staff and public would frequent.
In conclusion, the successful execution of the "The Refectory" project by Jupiter Construction stands as a testament to meticulous planning, ongoing quality assurance checks, unwavering commitment to adhering to regulations, and effective collaboration. From the careful demolition of the previous building to the creation of a functional and aesthetically pleasing facility, every stage was navigated with precision. Challenges related to security and safety were addressed, ensuring minimal disruption to the Farm and Garden Centre. The client, Caring for Life, expressed satisfaction, underscoring the project's success in delivering on budget and within the stipulated timeframe.
The end results were met with great satisfaction from both the Client, PSK, and the end users—staff and pupils alike. The revitalised Lowry Building now serves as a modern therapy teaching space, equipped with cutting-edge facilities. Buildings 5 and 6, with their remodelled configurations, offer improved pupil bedrooms and staff accommodations, providing a comfortable and functional environment.
The successful completion of this refurbishment project exemplifies Jupiter Construction's commitment to delivering high-quality construction solutions tailored to the unique needs of educational institutions. The collaboration between Jupiter Construction and William Henry Smith School has not only preserved the historical significance of the institution but has also positioned it for a bright and modern future.
