Our client, Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL), is responsible for a number of council-owned facilities who provide leisure activities to over 420,000 residents within its borough, including Colne Valley Leisure Centre in Huddersfield.
With facilities including a modern gym boasting the latest in cardio and physio equipment, fitness studio and swimming pool, the facility at Colne Valley offers multiple classes to its large membership base. The centre was struggling to accommodate the number of bookings for one of its more popular options, their spin classes, with KAL identifying the need for a bespoke studio to meet the demand. With a commercial kitchen and store room within the building used minimally, the space was perfect for re-modelling to form a spin studio.
Taking place over a two-week period in December, the works involved demolition, structural strengthening works, all mechanical and electrical installations including specialist AV, and an internal fit out. Once the first phase – demolition, restructuring and installations – was completed, the team quickly moved onto the second phase of the fit-out. Key to the internal works was ensuring the studio took on a more user friendly, open-plan layout, which would help to maximise the space. All ceilings, flooring, and interior decoration were included as part of the fit out before the facility was able to move its equipment into place two weeks laters, ahead of the peak season starting in January.
All works were carried out in a live environment and completed on time, on budget and to an extremely high standard.
